Dead Language Records is proud to announce the release the new and first full length album by Canada’s Forms. The album is called R/S and is available now for free download here: http://deadlanguagerecords.com/forms.html

Forms is a guitar and piano duo and R/S is a 12 track, instrumental, mostly improvisational album. It’s a beautiful sequence of songs that will become an essential part of your music collection, no matter what sort music you enjoy. These guys are great players and we look forward to many more years of music from them. We hope you love it as much as we do.

The boys of Forms have created a limited edition CD version of the album (which looks great!), and you can inquire about it directly with the band by emailing them here: willb@live.ca

Other news:

- Mercy Choir will be performing some shows in New York City and New Haven, CT this summer. Please reply to this email if you are a booker and have any open dates. Some of these shows will be sparse solo performances and some will be with backing musicians playing more fleshed out arrangements.

- There are still a few copies left of Christopher Trull’s mind boggling instrumental guitar album Boxes of Dead Things. Get your copy now, before there all gone. Of course, go ahead and download the mp3 version of the album and enjoy.

- Orchids is Paul Belbusti’s (that’s me) non-Mercy Choir project. The consist of various experiments (in the literal sense) in instrumental guitar and pedal soundscapes, piano plunking, and audio collage. Many tracks are now available to stream on the Orchids Muxtape page: http://orchids.muxtape.com
An Orchids E.P. is in the works.

From Wikipedia:
“In the Greek world, Tuesday (the day of the week of the Fall of Constantinople) is considered an unlucky day. The same is true in the Spanish-speaking world, where a proverb runs: En martes, ni te cases ni te embarques, meaning, ‘On Tuesday, neither get married nor begin a journey.’”

Coming Soon: Forms - R/S
Coming later this week is the debut...

Coming Soon: Forms - R/S

Coming later this week is the debut release of Canadian guitar/piano duo Forms. Their full length album, R/S is absolutely beautiful and will be available for free download in the very near future.

Just to wet your whistle, here’s the first track:

welcome.

Here’s a few words from the band about the album:

R/S is based on two recurring themes. The initial concept for the recording of R/S came from the Steve Reich composition “Clapping Music”. The first theme for R/S is the initial rhythmic motif from “Clapping Music” set to an E minor triad. The second theme is a chord progression based around the “basso ostinato” near the beginning of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 (3rd movement). It is transposed from the original key. In this recording the piano plays A B E A Bb F E C G F D Fmin7+imp. C while the guitar simultaneously plays A E A F E C G F. Almost all of R/S is improvisation stemming from the two themes or variations thereof.

Dead Language Records on Muxtape

Dead Language Records on Muxtape

Mercy Choir on Muxtape

Mercy Choir on Muxtape:
hooray for the death of myspace.

Immigrant Breast Nest. These CDs are numbered 1-50 and feature artwork and liner notes by me (Paul). Each CD label is hand stamped. Not only are these CDs collector’s items due to their limited availability, they are collectable simply for the fact that they are Compact Discs. A genuine relic of the past. Hearkening back to a time when music files were not delivered by a series of internets tubes, but via a round piece of plastic, inside a plastic case. Some day your children will be looking through your boxes of old photographs and magazines and they’ll come across this Christopher Trull CD and you’ll say,

“Yes, Virginia…this is Boxes of Dead Things compact disc #26 of 50. Your mother has number 6! I saw her putting the CD in the player inside her gasoline car and I flagged her down. This is how we met. We sat for hours in the McDonald’s parking lot and talked about this album and discussed the war.”

“Which war, Daddy? The World War?”

“No, Virginia, this was about a year before that war started.”
